Artist's Statement....." By Grade 9, I had my sites on becoming an illustrator. Still, I had never considered going to an art college. I worked by day as a bartender in the the local tavern while continuing to paint in the basement of my family home. One day a patron, on break from the nearby factory, saw me doodling on a napkin. He passionately urged me to get myself into an art school. I took his advice to heart. I had the makings of a portfolio and enough money saved for a year's tuition. Two weeks later, I was sitting in an illustration class, enrolled in one of Philadelphia's best art schools, Hussian School of Art. It was extremely competitive, with an intense work load and talented teachers. I put all my energy into it.

I moved into the city and began working as a freelance artist. A few blocks from where I lived was a community art center which offered life drawing classes 5 nights a week. I went there religiously for years developing a quick, free and accurate style of drawing.

I came to Maui on the prompting of two friends. One promised an abundance of things to paint. He was right. The other told me when to go.'Go on March fourth', he said 'so you can march forth.' And I did just that, I came to the island on March 4th 1985.

I paint people and their lives, their cars, trucks and machinery, their cows, goats and chickens, their towns, mills and fields. ....everything that traces a time-etched record of quiet dignity.

I have been juried into nearly all "Art Maui" exhibits. The Hawaii State Foundation of the Arts has colleected 5 of my pieces. I've been in all the "Maui Portrait Challenge" exhibits to date. I have enjoyed traveling around Europe and the U. S.. My work is collected far and wide. I call Maui and Southeastern Pennsylvania home. "
