Sandra Clark
Maui painter Sandra Clark has turned her hand to the art of
glass. Creating glass landscapes by combining vitreous painting
with creative kiln forming, Sandra captures Maui's extraordinary
colors and vistas. This unique color spectrum process, glass
layering technique, and kiln forming of up to 1500 degrees Fahrenheit
make each piece a work of art.
While living as a teenager in Tokyo, Japan, she was entranced
with the aesthetics of everyday Japanese life and studied many
of Japan's traditional art forms. What truly captivated her,
however, were the masters painters. Studying the arts as an
undergraduate and graduate student, Sandra received a BA from
Pennsylvania State University, and MA from Northern Illinois
University, and an MFA from the School of the Art Institute
of Chicago.
Her interest in art and painting led Sandra into the academic
world, teaching and inspiring college students. Retiring recently
from university teaching, she moved to Maui, spending more time
in her studio and participating in juried exhibitions.
Artist's Statement..."Living and working in Maui is so
inspiring," Sandra says. "I want my art to be an expression
of the human experience embodied with the aesthetics of the
culture it represents. My glass landscapes capture Maui's spirit
and light.
