Jim Lynch is an American colorist. Jim’s paintings are frequently in Art Maui. He paints, en plein air, in oils and pastels throughout Maui and in his Upcountry studio. Jim started painting for his teachers and classmates in the third grade. He later painted his way through Fordham Law School at Lincoln Center. Jim became a signature member of the Pastel Society of America for winning a nationally juried PSA competition in the National Arts Club in New York City. He studied art at the University of Miami and in New York at the Art Students League, Metropolitan Museum of Art and Pastel Society of America. Jim then served a three and half year apprenticeship in the European tradition with Master artist Albert Handell in Santa Fe, NM. Jim’s paintings have won regional and national awards and are in private and corporate collections in Maui, Paris, America, Ireland and Switzerland.

Jim Lynch....."All my life I have been an artist. In the third grade I drew Disney characters on the blackboard for my teacher and classmates. I started to sculpt about the same time. While attending graduate school in New York City in the 60’s I began exhibiting my paintings in Ann Addison’s Gallery on the East Side. In 1990 I began to paint full time. My art mentors include: Michael Burban at the Art Students League and Flora Giffuni, founder PSA, at the National Arts Club in New York City. After studying in Miami and New York I moved to Santa Fe, NM to serve a three year apprenticeship in the classic European tradition with Albert Handell; and, a two year stone carving mentorship under the watchful eye of Dr. Jay Navarro, of the RC Gorman, Studio. I continue to study the works and words of the masters. I sculpt and paint with my fellow artists who have all made substantial contributions to my attempt to reach new levels in seeing and to my bliss - the process of painting and sculpting that brings beauty into the world."
