Pamela Hayes has
been represented by Village Gallery since 1979. Pamela grew
up in the San Fernando Valley of Southern California. She graduated
from California State University at Northridge with a B.F.A.
in 1974. Her senior year was spent abroad in Florence, Italy,
followed by a year of graduate school at the Royal College of
Art in London.
In 1977, she moved to Maui, and over the
last 29 years she has established her reputation as a fine painter
in the difficult medium of watercolor. Her works have been featured
in solo exhibitions at The Village Gallery, as well as juried
exhibitions including Art Maui and Artists of Hawaii. In 1996,
one of her paintings, Reggae Banana, was accepted in the prestigious
annual juried exhibition of the National Watercolor Society
and selected for its national traveling exhibition.
Pamela paints her watercolors first-hand
from the subject, without using photographs as aids. The
remarkable detail nd the nuances of color in her works are testimony
to the artist's keen power of observation. She loves to paint
nature, finding inspiration in the native Hawaiian plants, especially
Hibiscus, that surround her studio on the edge of Haleakala
ranch outside of Makawao where she has lived for 29 years.
