Ne’e pū - to move together

28” x 29”

kapa dyed with ʻōlena, ʻukiʻuki, kokiʻoʻulaʻula, paʻu, hili kukui

What comes to mind when I see "ma ka hana ike" is how necessary it is to work together.  A concept the Hawaiians habitually did in order to succeed.  The different patterns and layers resemble the numerous responsibilities required to complete a task together.  The strength of the ‘opihi and their slow steady movements resemble determination.  The purifying properties of the yellow ʻōlena dye remind us to resolve conflicts quickly so we can move forward.  The pa’u and hili kukui dyes, which both come from the kukui tree or tree of enlightenment, motivate us to reach our goals.  Through all of our work we have continual opportunities to learn from one another.
